Job description

80–100%, Winterthur / Smart Working

Shape your future with us! Every success story begins with believing in yourself. At AXA, we see ourselves as a partner who stands beside you and believes in you. We challenge and support you, proactively showing you opportunities for your future. We encourage you and give you the freedom to bring together the things that matter to you. With your commitment and individual contribution, this becomes a forward-looking partnership—for you, for us, and for our customers, not just now but for the long term.

At AXA, you will find a culture where you can fully develop your strengths. We value critical thinking and innovative contributions, regardless of hierarchy. Write your own success story with us. Know You Can.

Around 600 software and systems developers work across Switzerland in Data, Technology & Innovation, developing tomorrow’s technology in-house. We also collaborate in global teams and networks, integrate the latest tools, organize hackathons, and work in self-organizing agile product teams that take end-to-end responsibility.

What you can expect

  • Share responsibility for the overall system connecting AI-based underwriting solutions (Agentic Offering, UW Workbench, Automation Tasks), pricing and discount management (Pricing Engine), and core IT—from architecture through production operations.
  • Actively shape and develop interfaces and integrations between these systems, creating a robust, scalable, maintainable ecosystem that delivers measurable value to the P&C business.
  • Work closely with data scientists, actuaries, AI engineers, and business stakeholders in underwriting and pricing. Bridge technical and business domains and turn complex requirements into working solutions.
  • As a lead, act as a sounding board, source of ideas, and technical conscience for the team. Establish best practices, support code reviews, and help develop a shared engineering culture.
  • Track relevant developments in software engineering, cloud, and AI, assess them critically, and make them useful to your team and stakeholders as a grounded thought leader.
  • Work deliberately at the intersection of innovation and stability: question assumptions, bring forward ideas, and have the courage to ask difficult questions—where the best solutions begin.

What you bring

  • Several years of experience as a software engineer or AI engineer, with a strong record of designing, integrating, and operating complex distributed systems in production.
  • Experience developing and operating Python backend applications (e.g. FastAPI, Flask), and bringing APIs, data pipelines, and AI components together cleanly.
  • Systems-level architectural thinking and decisions that account for latency, cost, security, and maintainability.
  • Cloud-native concepts, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), infrastructure as code, and CI/CD are part of your toolkit. GCP experience, especially Vertex AI and Cloud Run, is a strong advantage.
  • Strong opinions about software design principles and technology choices, balanced with pragmatism in implementation.
  • Understanding of insurance products and processes, or enthusiasm for learning them. P&C, underwriting, or pricing knowledge is a real advantage because strong integrations combine domain knowledge and engineering.
  • Fluent German and English.
