As a Senior Data Engineer at Axians, you will design, build, and optimize scalable data and machine-learning platforms for clients, including in the financial and public sectors. You will work in multidisciplinary teams with fellow engineers, data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders on challenging data problems.

You combine deep technical expertise with a leadership role: helping clients and colleagues move forward by providing direction, introducing best practices, and taking the lead on design and implementation decisions.

Your responsibilities include

• Design and develop scalable, production-grade data and ML pipelines.
• Model and structure data for analytics and reporting.
• Build, optimize, and develop cloud data platforms.
• Integrate different data sources into robust architectures.
• Improve data quality, performance, and reliability.
• Advise clients on data architecture, modeling, and best practices.
• Build and maintain ML workflows, including training, validation, deployment, and monitoring.
• Apply CI/CD and automation to data and ML workflows.
• Actively guide and coach colleagues and client teams on technical choices and ways of working.

You will use modern data-engineering tools and cloud environments such as Azure, Databricks, and, where relevant, Snowflake.

Technology and stack

• Databricks (PySpark and SQL), including ML workloads.
• Python (strong programming skills) and SQL (complex queries and performance optimization).
• Spark or comparable large-scale processing frameworks.
• ML experiment tracking and model management, e.g. MLflow or equivalent.
• Azure Data Factory for orchestration and integration.
• dbt for data transformation and modeling according to software-engineering best practices.
• CI/CD, Git, and DevOps principles for data and ML workflows.
• Data modeling and architecture principles such as Kimball and Data Vault.
• Cloud environments such as Azure; AWS or GCP experience is also valuable.

Your profile

• Senior-level experience as a Data Engineer.
• Strong knowledge of production data and ML pipelines.
• Good command of AI/ML fundamentals.
• Experience implementing ML models in cloud environments.
• Able to clearly explain technical choices to engineers and business stakeholders.
• Takes ownership and leads the continued development of these topics within our Business Unit and for our clients.
• Financial-sector experience is an advantage; public-sector experience is also very welcome.
• Higher professional or university-level working and thinking ability (HBO or WO).
• Good command of Dutch.

Axians is an international network of specialized, self-managing IT units. In this role, you will work in the Data & AI area, which has five Business Units serving different market segments and offering different propositions. Engineers in Data & AI each have their own specialty and base location. You will collaborate in a multidisciplinary team of clients and direct colleagues. Your base will be the Laren, North Holland, Business Unit, but you will have plenty of freedom to organize your working week and location.

The Axians location in Laren specializes in Data & AI. Around 40 colleagues work together to help and advise clients on data challenges. Our clients include large, innovative organizations such as ABN AMRO Insurance, Philadelphia Care Foundation, Zeeman, and PGGM.
