Senior Platform Engineer
Twelve Labs · Seoul, South Korea
$152k - $242k
Full-Time
Job description
Who we are
Video accounts for 90% of the world’s data, but most of it still remains in an area machines cannot yet understand.
TwelveLabs builds AI infrastructure to solve this problem by enabling machines to understand video. Through AI models that understand video more sophisticatedly and deeply than humans, it comprehensively analyzes the visual and auditory information in video and applies it to workflows across media and entertainment, sports, security, and the public sector.
We have attracted more than KRW 300 billion in cumulative investment from global investors including NEA, Radical Ventures, Amazon, NVIDIA, Snowflake, Databricks, Index Ventures, 네이버벤처스, 한국투자파트너스, Quadrille Capital, and Red Bull Ventures. In addition, world-renowned AI leaders such as Fei-Fei Li, Silvio Savarese, and Alexandr Wang are serving as advisors.
TwelveLabs is a global company operating from four offices in San Francisco, Seoul, New York, and London. Core R&D takes place in Seoul, and members across global offices use this foundation to apply video understanding technology to various industries and markets. Just as we build technology that understands the complexity of the world, we believe we can build better products when people with different backgrounds and perspectives come together.
We are looking for people who want to define answers that do not yet exist in the world and who want to create change with their own hands. Join TwelveLabs to build technology that understands the world together.
About the Role
To build and operate the systems that support TwelveLabs’ AI platform, we are looking for aSenior Platform EngineerIn particular, we expect someone with strong perspectives and experience in Platform and SRE.
This position requires a very high level of hands-on engineering. You will work across infrastructure, backend systems, and reliability engineering overall, and have a substantial level of ownership over actual Production systems.
You must be able to solve problems even when the boundaries between different engineering areas are not clear. When a Production incident occurs, rather than simply passing the issue to the "responsible team," you directly investigate the problem, validate existing assumptions, trace the entire system to find the root cause, and lead the issue until the fix is reflected in Production.
You will also design and build infrastructure and internal platforms so engineers can develop and deploy quickly, while continuously improving the Reliability, Observability, Performance, and Operational Maturity of Production systems.
This will be a good fit if you enjoy digging deep into technical problems, freely move across multiple layers of the system to solve problems, and prefer owning and solving the problem itself rather than managing a specific infrastructure area.
In this role, you will
- Design, build, and operate scalable infrastructure and internal platforms that support TwelveLabs’ AI products
- Own the Reliability and operational state of Production systems, from Incident Response to Root Cause Analysis and long-term improvements
- Build CI/CD for fast and safe deployments and improve Observability systems for smooth operations
- Build scalable CI/CD Pipelines and Infrastructure Automation using tools such as Terraform
- Improve the Reliability, Performance, Scalability, and Cost Efficiency of Production systems
- Develop Platform and Tooling so Product and Engineering teams can develop and deploy services more efficiently
- Collaborate closely with Backend Engineers, ML Engineers, Researchers, and Product teams to understand system requirements and build appropriate Platform Solutions
- Directly lead technical problems without clear answers or ownership, taking responsibility from investigation through implementation and Production Rollout
You may be a good fit if you have
- Experience building and operating Production systems in Cloud environments such as AWS, GCP, and Azure
- A high level of experience with Linux, Networking, Containers, and Kubernetes
- Experience using Terraform, Ansible, or similar Infrastructure as Code tools
- Experience designing and operating CI/CD and Deployment systems
- Experience with Observability, Monitoring, Logging, Alerting, and Production Incident Response
- Experience programming or scripting with Python, Go, TypeScript, or other Backend-oriented Languages
- Experience debugging complex problems across multiple layers of Production systems
- A solid understanding of Distributed Systems and Cloud Architecture
- A problem-solving approach that does not stop at temporarily mitigating symptoms butdigs all the way to the Root Cause of the problem
- The ability to solve problems effectively even when the boundaries of Ownership are not clear
Preferred Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in Infrastructure, Platform Engineering, SRE, DevOps, or a similar Engineering Role
- Experience building a Developer Platform or Infrastructure Platform used by multiple Engineering teams
- Experience operating a B2B SaaS product requiring High Availability at scale
- Experience designing systems considering high-level Security and Compliance requirements
- Experience with Backend Service Development and Distributed Systems
- Experience making decisions considering trade-offs among System Performance, Reliability, and Infrastructure Cost
- Experience working at a fast-growing Startup or in an environment requiring a high level of Ownership
- Able to communicate in English
The talent we’re looking for
We are not looking for someone who fits exactly into one role or category. The strongest candidates have a solid Infrastructure foundation while also being able to write Software directly, Debug Backend systems, respond to Production Incidents, and continuously improve the Reliability of the systems they operate.
They may call themselves Infrastructure Engineers, Platform Engineers, SREs, or DevOps Engineers. But what we value most is not what title they have, buthow they approach and solve problemsWhen a problem occurs in Production, the person we are looking for is someone who "wants to understand why this problem occurred." They dig deep into the system, question existing assumptions, follow evidence across multiple layers to find the Root Cause of the problem. And they do not stop at simply solving the problem; they improve the system itself so that the same problem is less likely to occur again. If you enjoy solving problems in this way, you are the person TwelveLabs is looking for.
