About PASQAL

PASQAL designs and develops Quantum Processing Units (QPUs) and associated software tools. Our innovative technology can address use cases currently beyond the reach of the most powerful supercomputers, including applied industrial challenges and fundamental science. In addition to their exceptional computing power, QPUs are highly energy-efficient and will help significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the high-performance computing industry.

Job description

Within the Hardware division, you will join the Engineering Center department and the Optics & Laser Systems team. The team works on two major areas in developing future generations of Pasqal quantum processors: designing, aligning, and testing new optical benches; and defining, characterizing, and validating new laser systems. In this highly hands-on role, you will work closely with our senior laser engineer and contribute directly to developing, integrating, and maintaining our optical and laser systems.

Your responsibilities

Align, characterize, and operate different laser systems, from commercial equipment to R&D prototypes.

Install equipment needed to characterize lasers and optical benches, including optical fibers, cooling systems, monitoring devices, and measurement instruments.

Write, update, and follow related technical documentation, including alignment procedures, test plans, test reports, and maintenance instructions.

Help select and purchase equipment for laser and optics laboratories.

Integrate lasers into our quantum processors (QPUs), diagnose technical problems, and resolve them.

Assemble, align, troubleshoot, and maintain existing optical benches and laser systems.

Help evaluate new components and validate new equipment, methods, and processes.

Provide technical support to Production and Installation & Maintenance teams.

Actively participate in team routines and group activities.

About you

At least 5 years of experience in a similar role, ideally at a laser manufacturer or in an industrial photonics environment.

You have helped develop complex systems in a demanding industrial environment, for example in aerospace, medical, defense, or telecommunications.

You know structured development methods, such as the V-model or an equivalent approach.

You enjoy hands-on laboratory work and want to work directly on aligning, testing, and maintaining laser systems and optical benches.

You are comfortable in a dynamic technology environment where topics evolve quickly and bring new challenges.

Technical skills

Experience using class 4 continuous-wave lasers while strictly following laser safety rules.

Strong experience with complex optical systems and associated instrumentation.

Ability to work on multidisciplinary systems combining optics, mechanics, electronics, hydraulics, thermal management, monitoring systems, and embedded software.

Proficiency in optical alignment, laser characterization, measurement, and troubleshooting.

Ability to write clear, precise, usable technical documentation.

Laser safety certification or training is a plus.

Personal qualities

Autonomous, rigorous, and organized.

Hands-on and able to solve technical problems.

Excellent communication and listening skills.

Strong team spirit.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Good written and spoken English for an international environment.

What we offer

Brand-new offices in Massy-Palaiseau.

Permanent contract.

A dynamic, close-knit international team.

A key role in a fast-growing startup.

Time to train and attend conferences and meetups.

Recruitment process

A 30-minute interview with Talent Acquisition.

A discussion with the team manager.

A meeting with the team at our offices.

An offer.
