Senior AI Scientist, Data Innovation Lab (M/F)

Job description

At the Data Innovation Lab, you will be responsible for generating real value from data and AI. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team of data scientists, software engineers, and business experts that develops innovative AI solutions and drives the long-term transformation of our insurance business.

The position is in the “Center of Excellence – AI for Health” unit within the Data Innovation Lab. Our focus is identifying value opportunities in private health insurance and developing AI systems to realize them. To do this, we work closely with other Data Innovation Lab teams and experts in private health insurance, drive projects forward purposefully, and contribute our AI expertise to joint projects.

What you can expect

• Identify new application areas for AI and machine-learning models by using your knowledge of data and statistics to analyze workflows and processes.
• Develop AI applications that transform our core business and make our processes more efficient.
• Develop strategic concepts to drive far-reaching change across the Group and build project teams.

What you bring

• Very strong Python programming skills.
• Willingness to learn operational insurance processes so you can understand AI applications in their broader context and develop them toward clear goals.
• Strong skills in training and implementing algorithms, such as deep-learning models or tree and ensemble models.
• Familiarity with the APIs of frontier labs (Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic) and advanced features such as structured outputs and tool calling.
• Experience with deep-learning and large-language models in natural-language processing or image processing—for example, importing, fine-tuning, and running inference with Hugging Face models—is a plus.
• Ability to identify solutions and opportunities others may not see and find new sources of value.
• A high level of commitment and reliability, with a balanced approach to pragmatism and perfectionism.
• Ideally, experience building new projects from the initial idea through prototyping to stable operation.
• Experience with SQL, Git, Bash, and Docker is helpful.
