Job description
Job Description:
Airbus is bringing together its strengths in AI and autonomy to shape the future of autonomous systems. To do this, it is establishing a new, agile development and expertise center at Tesat’s established technology site in Backnang. Combining decades of space-technology expertise with start-up energy, the center will develop the next generation of AI-powered defence and dual-use applications.
As a Full-Stack Software Engineer, you will turn AI models into functional, intuitive, high-performance applications. You will build both robust backend systems and sophisticated frontend applications, making complex technology usable and creating an autonomous system solution.
Benefits
- Unique opportunity to shape the future of autonomous systems at a world-leading aerospace company.
- Inspiring environment combining start-up innovation with an established technology location.
- Brilliant colleagues working toward a shared vision of Europe’s technological sovereignty.
- Attractive salary, flexible hours, and excellent career-development opportunities across Airbus.
Your role
You will develop the application ecosystem from backend to cockpit. As a (Senior) Full-Stack Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the architecture and development of business-critical applications that bring AI to life. You will work across the technical stack, from designing robust backend microservices to developing sophisticated autonomous edge applications.
Responsibilities
- Backend and API development/architecture: design and implement scalable microservices and robust REST and gRPC APIs to connect AI models.
- Edge application development: implement complex, data-intensive edge applications using modern C++ frameworks.
- Database management: design data models and manage SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Data visualization: develop interactive map views and visualizations of real-time operational pictures.
- End-to-end ownership: work across the stack and ensure seamless integration of edge devices, backend, and infrastructure.
- Senior-level mentoring and technical leadership: coach engineers on software-design best practices, clean code, and system architecture. Senior engineers own the architectural foundation while staying hands-on and connecting strategic design with implementation.
Desired skills and qualifications
- Degree in computer science or equivalent; for the senior position, ideally a master’s or doctorate.
- Excellent programming skills in a modern backend language (such as Python or Go) and C++ for edge applications.
- Practical experience building distributed systems and APIs and working with cloud-native technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Senior level: substantial relevant experience and a record of delivering complex technical architectures or technical leadership in a fast-moving technology environment.
- Eye for good design and passion for outstanding user experiences.
- High quality standards and motivation to take ownership of the complete application.
- Business-fluent German and English.
